Our Unique Safari Style

The décor, colors and the special touches create the ambiance of Daka Plains. The camp is a blend of local rock, canvas, and thatch with the front deck and sitting area.  The rooms cater to all requirements with hot and cold running water, flush toilets ensuite.  We have chosen the finest quality linens and towelling bathrobes, comfortable beds that can be transformed into either twin or king beds we now have a very special family room that can accommodate families with young children and in close proximity to our main area. Sit back and relax on your own private deck looking down over the Deka river and valley. All our rooms have a spacious draped mosquito net, overhead fan for the warmer months, coffee and tea station, a small lock up safe, 220v plug points for charging phones and cameras. If you require a special adaptor, we recommend bringing with you.  A Laundry facility is provided daily, and luggage racks from the original Victoria Falls Hotel adorn the foot of the bed.  We have provided a lockable wooden chest for extra storage and adequate shelving with hanging space for all your safari gear and clothing.

Main Area and Dining

Daka plains has an inside dining area and lounge with the original stone fireplace for those cold winter nights.  Comfortable, spacious seating and an extensive library which providing a variety of classic safari books and varied reading material. At the far end of our main area is our fully stocked bar and cigar corner. The front deck offers a special evening dining option for dinner under the African sky and stars.  We are blessed to have the option to dine in the warmth and ambiance of our lounge area during chilly evenings.  After your guide briefing by the fire side, enjoy a night cap whilst reflecting on the days sightings and experiences, soaking up the ambience of the fire and the many night sounds.

Daka Expeditions Fact Sheet

Daka Expeditions is styled on the traditional ‘Out of Africa’ safari experience, a journey back in time to a more simple and original Colonial splendour, with sweeping views out towards Botswana this is your exclusive piece of Africa!

Daka Expeditions is situated in the far northwest of Hwange National Park on the Daka Plains Concession which is a 45-minute/1 hour game drive from robin’s airstrip.

The Camp is sited close to the Deka seeps, the head waters of the Deka river which flows east to the Zambezi.  With sweeping views over our private concession towards Botswana, each tent is specifically placed to ensure your view is nothing short of spectacular!

  • Because Zimbabwe is a malaria area, precautions are recommended. All travellers coming from or going through countries which have been declared yellow fever infected areas must provide an international health certificate of vaccination for yellow fever upon arrival into Zimbabwe.
  • The water in Camp is safe to drink.
  • Daka Expeditions has solar lighting throughout the camp.
  • There is no Wi-Fi available in the Expeditions camp.
  • No children under 12 are allowed to participate in Game Walk activities.
  • A maximum of 20kg of luggage per person is allowed for light aircraft flights, including hand luggage and camera equipment. Please ensure that all luggage is soft sided.  Only bags without wheels are permitted.  Luggage dimensions should not exceed 25cm (10 inches) wide, 30 cm (12 inches) high and 62 cm (24 inches) long.
  • Passengers weighing between 100 – 120 kg (242 – 264 lbs) please need to advise us when making a booking, so that we can in turn advise the air charter company for scheduling purposes. Passengers weighing over 120 kg (264 lbs) will be expected to purchase an additional seat.

Clothing on safari should be comfortable and colours should blend in with nature as much as possible.  Beige, greens, browns, tan, and khaki coloured clothing is advisable.  Evening dress is ‘smart casual’, no formal wear required.

Year round

  • Layers – the best way to dress on safari, due to fluctuating temperatures. We recommend cotton.  Long sleeves and trousers will protect from both sun and insects.
  • Fleece/warm sweater or warm jacket for morning and evening game drives.
  • Hat – broad brimmed for protection against the sun.
  • Sunglasses – dark ones to cut the glare.
  • Light cotton shirts and T-shirts, Blouses, or shirts.
  • Shorts, trousers, and chinos.
  • Shoes – good, comfortable sturdy closed shoes/boots and socks for walking.
  • Flip flops/thongs.
  • Sunblock, insect repellent and lip salve.
  • Binoculars – each person should have their own so as not ot o miss out on any sightings.
  • Camera with spare batteries, memory sticks, film, and the correct charging apparatus.

Summer

  • A kikoi or light sarong has a multitude of uses.
  • Light, compact jacket (windcheater) for the rainy season.

Winter

  • It gets very cold in the evenings and early mornings, and quite hot during the day – so layers are essential.
  • Warm leggings and thick socks – good to wear during cold weather.
  • Hat – woolen beanie for warmth.
  • Gloves and Scarf.
